This
Easter season, we are going down a road Beyond Fear... This
Easter season at ClearView Church, we are studying Psalm 23 during our morning
worship services. Using that famous Biblical poem, we are going to walk behind
our good shepherd, Jesus. We will explore how the images of David, formerly a
shepherd of flocks and, later, a shepherd of God's nation of Israel, give us comfort
and hope. Even in sorrow. Even in trouble. Please
join us as we journey through the weeks leading up to Easter (known as Lent) during
our morning worship services, each Sunday at 10 am.
Sunday,
March 11 10 am: "Beyond Fear: Fear of Rejection" We
are afraid of failing, afraid of being rejected, afraid of not being loved, afraid
of being abandoned. This message will explore various "shepherd" images
from the Bible, both good and bad. God is the good shepherd, the one who will
not reject his sheep, but follows them, protects them, loves and cares for them. Sunday,
March 18 10 am: "Beyond Fear: Fear of Want" We
are afraid of not having enough, not being provided for. Our consumer culture
capitalizes on that by constantly blurring the line between "wants"
and "needs" to make us feel we NEED what we want -- not only that: we
DESERVE it! God promises to supply all of our needs. What are they? What more
could we want? Sunday,
March 25 10 am: "Beyond Fear: Fear of Getting Lost" We
have fears of "losing our way" in life. Making wrong choices that close
doors for us in the future. Dating the wrong guy. Choosing the wrong courses.
Not getting into the best University. Turning down a better job offer. We want
the best for ourselves out of life... and we don't KNOW the future. God promises
to guide us along the right paths -- if we follow him, of course. Jesus says that
his sheep know his voice. Would it be familiar to you? Sunday,
April 1 10 am: "Beyond Fear: Fear of the Dark" Fear
of the dark. Fear of suffering. Fear of cancer. Fear of loss. Fear of death. These
fears are natural. And God doesn't preserve us from experiencing all bad things.
But he does promise to get us THROUGH the dark valley, and to be with us IN the
dark valley. Because he looks after us, we can be comforted. Curiously, Jesus
had to cry out on the cross, asking why God had forsaken him. He did it for us
so we never have to again. Friday,
April 6 - Good Friday 7 pm: "Beyond Fear: Fear of Enemies" Do
you have enemies? Real or metaphorical? Jesus certainly did! One of them was seated
right at the table with him: Judas. Through Judas, Satan was present. Through
Satan, a plan of betrayal, suffering and death as a criminal unfolded. How did
Jesus endure? How can we endure? Sunday,
April 8 - Easter Sunday 10 am: "Beyond Fear: Fear of
the Future" Humans are afraid of what MIGHT
happen, both in this life and beyond it. God gives assurances against both of
those fears.
