What
is a Christian?
The followers of the teachings of Jesus Christ in the first century
were 1st designated as Christians. Today, as in the 1st century,
those who believe in the divinity and holiness of God and commit
their lives to Jesus Christ are still known as Christians.
What
about God?
The holiness of God in its most basic meaning is that aspect of
the nature of God which separates Him from all others. God is completely
committed to goodness and cannot have anything to do with evil.
Since God is completely pure and we are not, it follows that we
cannot enter into His presence until we have been made clean free
from sin. And since we cannot accomplish this on our own, we need
someone to advocate or mediate for us.
Who
is Jesus?
Jesus is our mediator. Because He is both God (without sin) and
man (he was sent by God in human form), Jesus is the only One who
can advocate on our behalf to reconcile us with God.
What
is a church?
Jesus continues to live out His life on earth through His corporate
body, the church. The "body of Christ" is not just a figure of speech,
but conveys the reality that Christ lives through His people. Together,
God's people extend the life of Jesus to the world.
What
about the Holy Bible?
The word bible comes from the Greek, meaning book.
Therefore, the Holy Bible refers to the Holy Book.
While the Bible is diverse in its presentation, it presents a single
unfolding story: God's redemption (being saved from sin through
Jesus' sacrifice) of human beings. The Bible today still offers
a guide for living the Christian life to all who read and believe
it.
